Shooting, not just with the rifle

I find myself more and more these days shooting with the camera rather than the rifle.

Sure i still like to harvest free range game, but there is something special about coming home and reviewing what has been captured and left.

I do majority of my “photo” shooting with a digital video camera. Some of the footage i have captured over the years is stunning.

I am currently using a Canon Legria HFM31 digital video camera. The reason i chose this model are:

  1. It is small, light and compact
  2. It is very easy to use which is handy when i lend it to Andy
  3. It has a very good optical zoom which is priceless in wildlife situations
  4. It captures video in HD
  5. It has a very easy ability to be able to “rip” HD images directly from the HD video footage

Although this camera is now showing some signs of age after about 4 years of being put through its paces, it still serves me well and is generally the first thing i pack in my back pack when preparing for a walk.
